MARIAH CAREY - E=MC²
USHER - HERE I STAND
MADONNA - HARD CANDY
Usher is one of the big R&B standouts who has some elements of Michael Jackson, but his music is totally different. He came out with big hits, especially the popular 'Yeah!'. Its been a long time since he came out with a new album, therefore this is his comeback album. Comeback albums must be good to impress the fans and gain new fans, unfortunately, 'Here I Stand' is a letdown. The lead single, 'Love In This Club' was good. Usher ventures in the dance and techno territory, and he gained a new sound. But his new sound does not fit most of the songs in the album, only some, like 'Love In This Club' and 'This Ain't Sex'. Still, he has the R&B sound he's known for, but the album has the problem of having the same R&B sound throughout the album. This causes listeners to feel bored when listening to the album after a while. So, this album is mediocre, or normal, no major standouts or the 'WOW' feeling when you are listening to it.
Madonna, a defined legend, the QUEEN OF POP have released her latest album, and this time she took the help from Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell. Result - MASTERPIECE. Her first single, 4 Minutes, was catchy, with a good video, and the album follows-up to that spirit. Listening to this album is like eating hard candy, sticky and sweet. All tracks are made for dancing, even the slow tracks have dance beats, like one of the best tracks, 'Miles Away' and 'Devil Wouldn't Recognise You'. Her previous album was totally dance, it was like in a retro disco. This album continues Madonna's famous dance sound, but adds hip-hop and R&B elements, such as the track 'The Beat Goes On' featuring rapping star Kanye West. Overall, the album is awesomeness, each track has a different sound, unlike most album these days which has the same sounding tracks. That's the uniqueness of 'Hard Candy'. So far, its my ALBUM OF THE YEAR.
What a weird title, it reminds me of my Algebraic Expressions lessons in my Maths class. According to Mariah, the tile means double the pleasure than her previous album, The Emancipation of Mimi. Her last album was a success, how did this album follow? Well, this album is good, a pleasure to listen to. One thing Mariah did is she retains her original sound, the sound that made her a star in the early 90s, as seen in tracks like 'I'll Be Lovin U Long Time', which has that retro feel to it. Her first single, Touch My Body, is typical Mariah, her style that she is good at. Her strong voice is still shown in some tracks, but was not as good as her previous albums. It seems she does not hit very high notes like she used to. Her voice is computerised in tracks like 'Migrate' and 'For the Record', but not that much, as it makes the tracks catchy and fun to listen to. Overall, its a good album although there are some boring songs.
