6 Cemerlang is the first class in S.K. Sungai Gelugor, the oldest Malay school in Malaysia which is formed in 1826.The class used to be named 6 Jasa Bestari but changed to 6 Cemerlang in 2004. 6 Cemerlang 2005 is described as the most active class in SKSG. It was the first class ever to have its own website (even the school doesn’t have one). Its first website is 6cemerlang.tripod.com and the second website is 6cemerlang.t35.com. Now, 6Cemerlang has a new third website, www.6cemerlang.piczo.com and is updated by the students. 6 Cemerlang 2005 has 41 students (formerly 42 students but one moved who was known as Shafiq Naim). The class teacher was Cikgu Maimunah bt. Yahya.
6 Cemerlang is located at the third floor of Block E (known as the new block). According to 6 Cemerlang 2005 version, when you are about to go into the class, you’ll see flower vines hanging and a welcome sign made of metal. Also there’s some notes and not forgetting posters on the front door. The teacher’s desk is decorated with a calendar, a stationary holder and extra stationeries for teachers to use. Not forgetting a table cloth and a vase of flowers as we respect our teachers very much.
The class is painted green by the past year’s 6 Cemerlang. The theme colour of the class is blue (plans of painting the class blue was cancelled). The notes on the notice board is changed every 6 months. All subjects are put on the notice board including bombastic words for essays. A place to put the certificates of the Cleanliness Contest is also on the notice board. There are extra sections too. Below here are the sections:
1. World Destinations – upper wall at the back of the class
2. Moral Values – front left side of the wall
3. IT & Technology – back left side of the wall
4. General Knowledge – front right side of the wall
5. Animal Facts – back left side of the wall
6. General News – a polystyrene board at the front of the class
7. Trivia – a wooden board at the front of the class
8. Health – the backdoor of the class
9. Geographical Map and Area – the backdoor of the class
The class won many awards including Best Spiritual and Clean Class on Independence Day. This was because the class was the first to hang flags from the highest level to the class. There were also a lot of flags in the class and Independence notes all over the walls of the class. The class also won a lot of Weekly Cleanliness Contests. Because of this, the class received an award for the Most Clean and Beautiful Class in 2005.
In studies, the top 5 students of the class would always be all-time countdown champions, Muzani, Aliff, Nazeer, Ummi and Lydiya. Many students in the class proved that getting the below 30 pupils wouldn’t stop them from studying and giving up. Example, Asyraf Syazuan usually got the below 30 but managed to get 5A’s in the mid-year exam. Fadzwa jumped from the below 30 to the top 20 pupils which was the highest jump in that year. Muzani got the most #1’s in the class in 2005. About 20 pupils of 6 Cemerlang 2005 got 5A’s in UPSR and so far went to good schools and hostels.
In co-curricular activities, Nazeer was the best. He received an award for Best School Athlete. He represented the school in football and were runner-ups. Athletes like Shuhadah too had proved 6 Cemerlang to be an active class. In early 2005, some students of the class participated in a ‘Bahasa Bermadah’ competition and managed to get 3rd. Public speaker Aliff managed to get a constalation prize in a public speaking contest. While Amir participated in many various Islamic contests and got the top 3 positions.
6 Cemerlang 2005 had done many activities throughout the year. It all started when Cikgu Maimunah entered the class on the first day of school. Some of the students of the class participated in some competitions organized by the school. Lydiya, the queen of spelling bee, participated in an English Spelling Bee and a Mathematics & Science spelling bee together with Amir and Aliff. They were known as best spellers of the class. A singing competition was also held after UPSR. There were 5 groups together and the songs performed was Only One, Don’t Lie, Come Clean, Incomplete and Fly. Red Card (members include Nazeer, Akashah, Muzani, Azim & Fadzil) did a totally hilarious performance singing Only One and were runner-ups. The Truth of Mystery (members include Aliff, Fadhli, Adhellah, Sabrina, Hamizah and Farah) did an impressive performance and got the 3rd place.
Even though all the students of 6 Cemerlang got separated in 2006, the students now are still tight and active with each other. The class website is used as a way to connect with each other. The class also did a reunion in early December 2005 to reunite everyone before separating. Also. the class did a second reunion at S.K. Sungai Gelugor. During that time, the students were in Form 1. The reunion was a blast with activities like musical chairs and an awards ceremony. Nazeer and Adilah were among the big winners of the 1st 6 Cemerlang Awards.
6 Cemerlang proved to be the best class of SKSG in history. Records of this class are shown below:
